Color Coated Steel Coil

PPGI Steel Coil

Color-coated steel is widely used in a variety of applications, particularly in the construction and automotive industries. Our color-coated steel is available in coils, strips, and sheets, with a wide selection of colors, patterns, paint types, and finishes to meet diverse design requirements.

We offer a wide range of coating options, including PE, HDP, SMP, and PVDF. We also work with well-known paint brands, such as Nippon Paint, Winter Paint, and AkzoNobel, to provide reliable coating solutions for different project requirements.

Types of Color-Coated Steel Coils

Color-Coated Cold-Rolled Steel Coil

Color-coated steel sheets use cold-rolled steel as the base material, providing a smooth and attractive surface while retaining the excellent processing properties of cold-rolled steel.

However, even minor scratches on the surface of cold-rolled steel can expose the substrate and lead to rust. Therefore, color-coated cold-rolled steel products are generally recommended for indoor applications where corrosion resistance requirements are relatively moderate.

Color-Coated Galvanized Steel Coil

One of the most widely used types of color-coated steel is based on galvanized steel, including hot-dip galvanized and electro-galvanized steel. Hot-dip galvanized steel is particularly popular as a substrate.

These pre-painted galvanized steel coils are protected against corrosion by a combination of a zinc coating and an organic paint coating, providing enhanced durability compared with uncoated galvanized steel. Thanks to their smooth surface and attractive appearance, they are widely used for interior decoration, steel furniture, home appliances, and similar applications.

For hot-dip galvanized substrates, the zinc coating weight ranges from 30 g/m² to 275 g/m² (both sides combined). The appropriate coating weight can be selected according to the intended application and service environment.

Electro-Galvanized Color-Coated Steel Sheet

Electro-galvanized color-coated steel sheets use electro-galvanized steel as the substrate. However, the zinc coating is typically thinner, ranging from 10 to 30 g/m², making this material less suitable for exterior wall cladding or roofing applications.

Despite this limitation, electro-galvanized color-coated steel is valued for its smooth, refined appearance and excellent formability. It is therefore widely used in home appliances, steel furniture, interior decoration, and other applications where appearance and processing performance are important.

Popular Colors for Color-Coated Steel Coils

Based on our sales data, popular colors for pre-painted steel coils include Cement Gray (RAL 7033), Signal Blue (RAL 5005), Traffic Red (RAL 3020), Moss Green (RAL 6005), Rape Yellow (RAL 1021), and Wine Red (RAL 3005).

Patterned color-coated steel coils are also an excellent choice for ceilings, doors, and interior decoration. The right color and pattern ultimately depend on your project requirements and preferences.

If you need other colors, patterns, or finishes, please contact us for customized solutions.

Color-Coated Steel Coil Prices

Color-coated steel coil prices typically range from around US$600 to US$1,100 per ton, depending on market conditions and product specifications.

The final price can vary based on factors such as the base metal, paint type and brand, coating thickness, coil width, steel thickness, and other customized requirements.

Substrate

Depending on the substrate, color-coated steel coils are generally available in three main types: cold-rolled steel (CR), galvanized steel (GI), and galvalume steel (GL).

Cold-rolled steel coils are typically the most cost-effective option, but they offer lower corrosion resistance than galvanized or galvalume steel. They are commonly used for indoor applications such as liner panels, lighting fixtures, and other products where high corrosion resistance is not required.

Galvalume steel-based color-coated coils, also known as PPGL, are generally more expensive. However, their excellent corrosion resistance and high reflectivity make them an excellent choice for roofing, wall cladding, and other building applications.

Coating

Common coating options include Polyester (PE), Silicone Modified Polyester (SMP), High-Durability Polyester (HDP), and Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF).

PVDF is generally more expensive than other coating options, but it also offers superior performance and durability. The appropriate coating should be selected based on the intended application, service environment, and required level of durability.

Main Coating Processes

The front side is coated with two layers of paint, while the back side receives one layer. The steel is then baked twice to cure the coatings.

The single-layer back coating offers relatively lower corrosion and scratch resistance, but provides good adhesion, making it particularly suitable for sandwich panels.

Both the front and back sides are coated with two layers of paint, followed by a single baking process to cure the coatings.

The back coating provides good corrosion resistance, scratch resistance, and adhesion. This coating configuration is suitable for single-layer corrugated sheets as well as sandwich panels.

Both the top and bottom surfaces are coated with two layers of paint and baked twice. This coating configuration provides good corrosion resistance, scratch resistance, and formability, but offers relatively lower adhesion.

Therefore, this type of color-coated steel coil is suitable for corrugated sheets but is generally not recommended for sandwich panels.

Tips for Buying Color-Coated Steel Coils

Choose the appropriate coating type and thickness. A typical coating thickness is 10/5 μm (top side/back side).

Common coating options include PE, with an expected service life of around 7–8 years; SMP, around 10–12 years; HDP, more than 15 years; and PVDF, more than 20 years. Actual service life may vary depending on the application, service environment, and maintenance conditions.

The top-side and back-side coatings can be specified differently according to application requirements. We typically use a two-sided coating process. If you have any special coating requirements, please let us know.

Confirm the required color or pattern, surface finish (such as smooth or embossed, matte or glossy), and product specifications, including width, length, thickness, coil weight, and other relevant requirements.

Why Choose Color-Coated Steel Coils?

Easy to Transport and Cost-Effective

Compared with color-coated steel sheets, steel coils are easier to transport and handle, helping reduce transportation costs. In addition, color-coated steel coils are generally more cost-effective, making them a practical choice for projects with large-volume material requirements.

As a versatile material, color-coated steel coils offer several advantages, including light weight, an attractive appearance, and excellent formability. These characteristics have made them popular in many markets.

With a wide range of applications and competitive pricing, color-coated steel coils are a practical material choice for various construction and industrial projects.

Thanks to its excellent formability, color-coated steel coils can be easily cut, shaped, and processed for different applications. They can often be processed with relatively simple equipment and straightforward operations, helping reduce processing requirements.

For large-scale projects, this can help lower equipment and processing costs, making color-coated steel coils a practical and cost-effective material solution.

Thanks to the excellent corrosion resistance of galvanized steel and aluminum-zinc coated steel, pre-painted steel coils and color-coated steel products generally require less maintenance.

For project owners and investors, this can help reduce long-term maintenance concerns and after-sales costs. For end users, it offers a practical and cost-effective material solution over the service life of the product.

Color-coated steel coils offer environmental benefits throughout their service life. When used as a building material, they can be installed without extensive demolition or material waste, helping reduce the environmental impact of construction.

In addition, used color-coated steel products can be recycled and reused, making them a practical material choice for more sustainable construction and industrial applications.
